I did my best to combine the sensibilities of the Watchmen with those of 1940s comics AND pay homage to another great mid-'80s title that began it's run just before the Watchmen took off.
To fill you in the whys and wherefores:
I did this piece for the upcoming Philadelphia Cartoonist Society tribute book, called The Children of the Watchmen (a title that's catchy and terrifying all at the same time!). The book will feature many great artists from the Philly area (and expatriates like myself) doing kick-ass interpretations of the characters from the book.
The book will have it's "official" debut on the evening of Friday, November 7, at the Brave New Worlds comic shop in Philly, located on 2nd street between Market and Arch. Artists from the book will be there to do signings and sketches, and original art and prints from the book will be on display and some for sale. More details to come. (The book might even unofficially debut at the Baltimore Comicon; stay tooned for more info!)
(Pencils inked with Pitt pens, grayscaled and SPFX'd in Photoshop, and banner and text added in Illustrator. "Eye-Popping Comics" logo copyrighted by me; all characters copyrighted by DC Comics.)
Wonderful work through and through!
How do you go about getting one of these books? Or is it a 'you had to be there' sort of deal? XD
